Resource Ontario
Resource Ontario levels the playing field for all Ontarians by providing equity of access to information and learning resources. It provides greater support for rural, urban, francophone and native populations by delivering free, licensed access to an extensive collection of materials and information.
Resource Ontario is the project of Knowledge Ontario that is focused on providing online resources to Ontarians through our province's publicly funded libraries, providing assistance for skills training, student success, literacy and self-directed learning.
Our Goals
Resource Ontario helps to achieve the goals established for Knowledge Ontario by:- establishing equity of access to digital information resources
- supporting the growth of Ontario’s knowledge economy
- facilitating a stronger, collaborative library system for Ontario
- empowering a community of life-long learners.
Resource Ontario does this by negotiating and paying for province-wide licenses for a suite of on-line databases that are age appropriate for every citizen in Ontario. These resources are then made available through the web-sites of all publicly funded libraries in Ontario and are available free of charge 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from home, school or the workplace. All that is necessary to access the databases is an internet connection and membership or affiliation with any one of the publicly funded libraries in Ontario. These include school, public, college, university and government libraries.
